Yoga Rituals: Wintering

DATE 18th January 2025

TIME 6-8pm

Embracing the darker months to slow down and retreat within. To really listen to the inner callings of the mind and body.
Humans are cyclical beings. We each have a spring, summer, autumn and winter. We cannot be in full bloom all of the time. Its natural that we have times where we need to rest, conserve and cosy down. These seasons don’t always match natures seasons. As women, we have our monthly seasons. You may even have to face a period of winter after a stressful life event.
Beginning this practice with some gentle yoga and movement to honour and care for our body. Moving into some breathwork to encourage relaxation and rest. We will welcome into this practice the Cailleach, honouring her cyclical nature and her connection to nature and the changing seasons.
We will delve into the concept and practice of shadow work through some guided journaling. The winter season is thought to be the perfect time to meet your shadow self, before emerging anew into the lighter days of spring.
We will then settle down to make a self care ritual for you to take home with you. Followed by a cacao ceremony and guided journey.
The winter is so often the time of year that is most dreaded. Long cold nights and short grey days. I want to take you on a journey this winter, to meet yourself where you are this season, so that you may begin to dream of who you are becoming.

Restorative Yoga

DATE 31st January 2025

TIME 7pm-9pm

Sutra 1.1 – Atha yoganusasanam – translated as ‘Now the teachings of yoga begin’ has been our theme in classes this month. We have explored the present moment being the only moment there is, each moment offering a beginning, a chance to commit to yourself once again.

On Friday 31st January 19:00-21:00 I will guide you through a restorative workshop. The focus of the teaching will be to remind yourself that your practice begins now, whenever you choose. We will harness the power of restorative breathwork and poses, supporting and allowing your physical self to find rest in the space. I will explain the benefits to your nervous system of simple breath practices that help you move into the rest, digest and restore part of you. We will allow deep rest in poses by supporting ourselves with props. Then, your mind can follow. Let the yoga begin now.

DATE 2nd February 2025

TIME  2-4pm

Join Louise for an afternoon of deep restoration, where we’ll tap into the energy of the season and the natural rhythms of nature.

The workshop begins with a Restorative Yin Yoga practice, utilizing props to support your body in long-held, deeply relaxing stretches. This practice is designed to release stress, ease tension, and bring balance to both body and mind. You’ll be encouraged to surrender fully into each posture, allowing the body to melt into a state of relaxation.

We will then move into Yoga Nidra, a guided meditation that takes you to a state of profound relaxation, promoting mental clarity and a sense of inner peace.

To complete the experience, you’ll be immersed in the healing frequencies of Tibetan and Crystal Singing Bowls, tingshas, and chimes. These powerful sounds will soothe the nervous system, guide you into a deep meditative state, and promote emotional healing.

This practice will be specially aligned with the unique energy of the season, helping you reconnect with the natural rhythms of nature. Whether you’re looking to reset or simply recharge, this workshop offers a magical way to spend your afternoon in perfect harmony with the flow of the season.

Introduction to the Alexander Technique

DATE 22nd February 2025

TIME  1.30-4pm

The Alexander Technique is a study in how we move, how we can access useful tone and strength whilst avoiding unhelpful tension, and the connection between our psychological reactive state (how calm or stressed we are!) and associated interference with our natural freedom of movement.
The method was developed over 120 years ago, originally in the context of the performing arts, where it remains well known, and is taught in most UK music and drama colleges, but it is also an invaluable skill for Yogis, athletes, and anyone who would like to be more comfortable and “at home” in their bodies.
The Alexander Technique builds an awareness of quality of movement that can be applied to improving how naturally and freely we are able to engage with any everyday or skilled activity.
This workshop will introduce you to the central principles and practices of the Alexander Technique with Tim Soar who has been teaching the Alexander Technique in Swansea for over 30 years.

Animal Spinal Freedom Movements

DATE 21st March 2025

TIME  7.30-9.30pm

As vertebrate animals, we not only have a spine, but our spines form:
• the central structural axis of our coordination,
• the “powerhouse” of well coordinated whole-body movement,
• an organising and integrating influence on all that we do, and all that we sense.
A healthy spine acheives all of this, not by being held and fixed – either in a “bad shape”, or even in a “good shape” – but through each individual’s discovery that the spine best operates through a series of “ripples” or “waves”, that move and modulate continuously as we move. Just sitting quietly and breathing involves intra-spinal movement, so even when we are “still”, the  rhythmic and energetic movement of the spine continues.
These spinal “waves” are associated particularly with  locomotive movements – that is to say, the swimming, crawling, walking, running, bounding and swinging movements that vertebrate animals engage in, in order to travel from place to place.
This workshop introduces you to the whole series of Spinal Freedom Animal Movement Sequences, which you can make part of your home movement practice; they are fun to do, and by mimicking the natural patterns of movement of various animals, we can free and “wake up” the natural energy of our spines, leading towards freer, healthier, more complete ways of moving.
Tim Soar has over 30 years experience of both Aikido and the Alexander Technique, and is based in Swansea.
